Daffy Duck And The Dinosaur Review

This is an excellent collection of Daffy Duck cartoons from the Leon Schlesinger Studios, scored by Carl Stalling, and with the many voices of Mel Blanc. There are also four Noveltoons, two that are terrific, but a warning must be given to those who get offended by the politically incorrect, because these episodes do not conform to today's standards.
The most fascinating episode for me is "Daffy the Commando", which is dark and brilliant, and absolutely hilarious, featuring Daffy in Nazi territory. It curiously has a glimpse of a wall poster depicting graphic female frontal nudity, that is shocking by its place in a cartoon for children, if that is who the main audience was supposed to be for this piece.
Episode list:
1: "Daffy Duck and the Dinosaur" (1939), directed by Chuck Jones, animated by A.C. Gamer.
Casper the caveman and his pet dinosaur Fido hunt for a duck breakfast. This one is laugh-out-loud funny.
2: "Yankee Doodle Daffy", (1943), directed by Friz Freleng, animated by Richard Bickenbach.
Producer Porky Pig is forced to watch Daffy's repertoire, which includes "I'm Just Wild About Harry", a banjo solo, and an imitation of Carmen Miranda singing "Boom-Chicky-Boom". You get to hear the full spectrum of Mel Blanc's amazing talent in this episode.
3: "Daffy the Commando" (1943), directed by Friz Freleng, animated by Ken Champin.
Fantastic and funny, this anti-Nazi piece is brilliant. It features Von Vulture as the bad guy, and the image of Hitler was done in Rotoscope.
4: "To Duck or Not to Duck" (1943), directed by Chuck Jones, animated by Robert Cannon.
Includes a boxing match between Daffy and Elmer Fudd.
5: "The Mite" (1948), directed by Bill Tytla, animated by Steve Muffatti & George Germanetti for the Famous Studios.
Features Tom Thumb who says "I may be little, but I'm going to do big things", and runs away from home and joins the circus.
6: "Foney Fables" (1942), directed by Friz Freleng, animated by Richard Bickenbach.
This is "A Book of Fairy Tales", and takes a humorous look at characters like Tom Thumb (who is now huge by taking Vitamin B-1), Jack and the Beanstalk, and more. There is a reference to WWII with the duck that lays golden eggs, who now lays them in aluminum, for the Aluminum National Defense fund.
7: "Suddenly it's Spring" (1944), directed by Seymour Kneitel, animated by Orestes Calpini and Otto Feuer for the Famous Studios.
Features Raggedy Ann (the 1st of only 2 Noveltoons featuring her), and it is beautifully drawn and very expressive, as Raggedy Ann travels through the sky and talks to the elements. The blues singing Mr. Cloud is not politically correct, but wonderful, and this Noveltoon has a very real emotional quality to it.
8: "Have You Got Any Castles" (1939), directed by Frank Tashlin, animated by Ken Harris, and # 2 in Tashlin's "Book Trilogy".
This is a song and dance fest ! Many musical treats including the Johnny Mercer/Richard Whiting title song, and the Harold Arlen/E.Y. Harburg "You're the Cure for What Ails me".
