My 2 1/2 year old loved this video when we checked it out from the library. I haven't purchased it because I'd like to wait for the DVD. We have never been able to watch the Jay Jay show on PBS because it is broadcast at an inconvenient time for us, so this video was my son's first exposure.
The video contains 3 short featurettes. Each has its own titles and credits, so you can stop the video between stories if you don't want to leave it on for the entire thing. The only downside to having three complete "shows" is that you also get the upcoming attractions, and in one case, a story is introduced that isn't on the video.
The counting game video is great for reinforcing number and counting skills. They also talk about the hours on a clock face, but the time element is dispensed with immediately. The Catpain Hightower episode teaches that patience and care is better than haste in getting things done efficiently. I like the episode, but even I find the Captain a little slow (and he looks a little weird in pancake makeup). The final episode on the tape is my favorite. Jay Jay learns that he can go for adventures by reading books and gets to "fly" underwater and up to the moon. This sequence also has a hearing-impaired adult (the librarian), so the concept of sign language is introduced.
All in all, this is a great collection of stories.
