(More customer reviews)This version of Robin Hood is not too violent for my 4 year old boy. It doesn't get bogged down in the politics of the time. I have ordered a few books that focus on connecting the mythological with the reality, which is interesting to an older child or grown up, but is just boring to a 4 year old. This movie doesn't attempt to explain many of Robin's well known encounters and confrontations. An older kid might wonder why Robin is considered a hero when he does things they wouldn't be allowed to do. I guess Robin Hood is just hard to explain within civilized acceptable behaviors. And yet he is still loved by children and grown ups.
The movie is quite old and the graphics are not as classy as what we see in new movies. But it is good enough to excite the imagination and tell a good story.
I wanted a version that had people figures instead of animal. The disney version has a fox I think. It just seemed better to tell this story with a human character, it helps pave the way to understanding that he was a real person.
My son's favorite part is the archery contest when Robin shoots and splits the arrow of his opponent which is already in the bulls eye. This is going on while the merry men are freeing one of their own from the Sheriff's jail. Plenty of excitement for a 4 year old.
I recommend it for young children. There is some clobbering and shooting (arrows) at people, but no deaths or blood.
